Great Journey of 2019 - Episode 1 of Season 3

Day 1 - Mar 2

This trip is really a bunch of first.  Two days ago it was our first air boat ride.  Last week we were the first guests that Mark and Delores had overnight in their new home.   Now in Daytona, LoriAnn and I are enjoying the first time we stayed in a beach side resort overlooking the ocean.  At Cancun we had a house with waves breaking outside our balcony.  In Puerto Rico we had an apartment with the surf outside the building.  But here in Daytona, we open our balcony and here we have the expansive beach with a generous amount of Surf.  LoriAnn couldn't resist the opportunity to arise early to take pictures of the sunrise.

It is time to relax.  After taking a short walk down the road to Adam's Egg for breakfast, we then had a great afternoon playing in the ocean, swimming in the pool, and then warming up in the hot tub.  The ocean water was cold.  The warmth of the hot tube was needed.

For dinner we drove down the road to Crabby Joe's which is located out on a pier.  Sadly, since it was windy, we had them close the window by us.  The food was good, but there wasn't much crab selection on the menu. After dinner we drove down to the lighthouse, stopped for a drink and to listen to a musician playing the steel drum.   And then we stopped to buy groceries.

The Ponce De Leon Inlet Lighthouse and museum are located 10 miles south of Daytona Beach and are open to the public year round. The Ponce Inlet Lighthouse is the tallest lighthouse in Florida and the second tallest masonry lighthouse in the country second only to the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse in the Outer Banks of North Carolina.  The lighthouse is painted red and is lit up at night providing us with an awesome sight.

On the way back to the resort we stopped to buy some groceries.  We bought breakfast and lunch food to help cut the cost of the trip.   Saving money on breakfast and lunch allows us to stretch our travel budget, and allows us to have more fun for dinner.

Day 2 - Mar 3

Lazy Morning!  We drank coffee on the balcony watching morning people gather on the beach.  We had a scrumptious breakfast made from our groceries.   As we got more energetic, we put on our swim suits to repeat yesterday by playing  in the cold ocean surf, swimming in the pool and then into the hot tub to warm up.

After finally getting dressed, we went out to dinner at the Crab House II.  Now we had been to the Crab House last time we were in Daytona and absolutely loved it.   We expected good food and it would be economical.  It was not as good as it once was.  The front room service was horrible.  My food was OK, but LoriAnn was missing part of her sea food boil meal.   The bowl her food was served in was cracked and chipped.   This experience was not good, and I felt compelled to submit a trip adviser comment on it.

For desert, we treated ourselves to Krispy Kreme donuts.  The red light was on indicating that the donuts were hot, just coming out of the grease.  We are used to being able to get a free donut, when the light is on.   Tonight we learned that this isn't a common practice.  It may just be for corporate stores.   Thanks to the App that LoriAnn had on her phone, we had enough points for a free donut to go with the half dozen we purchased.

After each of us eating a couple of donuts, we drove north up Daytona beach to see the sights and then returned to the resort.   The parking lot was full, so we parked across the street in the overflow lot. Saying a prayer over the car, we left it parked out of sight and went to bed.

Come back for the next episode of phase 3.  Will the car be OK? Will LoriAnn ever get to eat more sea food?  Will the nice weather continue in Daytona? Do we ever leave Daytona?
