Solidifying an Iron Butt

In preparation for our long distance trip out west this early summer, my wife and I took some time last week to get time in the saddle.

For dinner on Wednesday we road up to Tailor Falls, MN and had dinner at The Drive In.   The Drive In is a quaint old fashion root beer, burger joint, with a mini golf course.  Just a quick 120 mile run for dinner.   Sorry no map to show.

Then on Friday night after work we headed out to The Friendly Bar in Star Prairie, WI.

Trying to cross the St Croix river on a Friday night wasn't very fun.  Road construction on Hwy 8 at Tailor Falls and traffic congestion in Stillwater, MN has a lot of traffic routed through Osceola WI.  The traffic was backed up for a mile at the boarder crossing.

Once across, we were hungry so we headed directly to Star Prairie.

The fish fry at Friendly's is pretty good on Friday night and the price is very reasonable.  After dinner, the traffic was much better.  We zoomed south through New Richmond and then crossed at Stillwater, MN and then headed home.

Another 110 miles!

Then on Sunday, after getting a late start (930 AM) we zoomed on down the Mississippi to the south east corner of Minnesota to the town of La Crescent.  At La Crescent we turned west and road along the gorgeous Root river to Preston.

We were pretty hungry by the time we got to Houston, MN.  I thought there were a few cafe's in town worthly of a stop.  But nothing was found.  We headed north out of Houston to an camp ground that I used to stay at called Money Creek Haven.  I had a lot of good times camping and riding out of there.  The office used to have a snack bar, and they may still, but nothing was evident so we headed over to Rushford, MN were we found a cafe.  From Rushford, with full stomachs, we got back on Highway 16 and headed into Preston and then home.

That makes 345 miles for the day and 575 miles for the week.

I am getting close to 1.5K miles for the year.  The wife is now at 915 miles
