Theodore Roosevelt's ideas on Immigrants and being an AMERICAN in 1907

"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

Theodore Roosevelt 1907
I agree with Mr Roosevelt on one sole loyalty, no divided allegiance, a single flag, a single language and being treated on an exact equality with every other american. With that said, I want to welcome all legal immigrants to this nation. Be comfortable and enjoy this great nation you have joined. But if your allegiance is divided, go back to where you came from. If you want to fly another countries flag in place of the one that I and others have sacrificed for, go back to where you came from. If you want to speak another language, that is great! But do not expect me to spend my time or money adopting for you. English is spoken here. You can go back to where you came from if you don't want to learn our language. And finally, do not expect me to treat you any different than I am treated by you. I expect that its a lot worse for you back in your native land than it is here. Thats why we both want to stay here. God is with us both and in him I trust.
