2019 Sept Lake Superior Loop Motorcycle Tour - (Background)

Image
For my wife and I, Lake Superior has always been a destination to visit.  We have made numerous trips up north to the Minnesota coast line; also known as the Northern Riviera. We have also traveled the southern coast of the lake in Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.  Furthermore, my brother and I have circled the lake on motorcycles many years ago.  But this was our first trip around the lake as a couple riding two up.  For numerous years, LoriAnn has been asking me to take her for a loop around Lake Superior.  Although we have talking about this for years, it always seems to have taken a back seat to another journey. Last April, before any planning began, LoriAnn declared this a bucket list trip! Lake Superior,  is the largest of the Great Lakes of North America.  Some of the first Americans, the Ojibwe called the lake gichi-gami.  The first French explorers referred to Superior as le lac supĂ©rieur.  Currently, Lake Superior is an important link in the Great Lakes

Sunflower rays of sunshine from Aug 26

Today's ride was our 2nd search for the ever elusive Sunflower field.   There is something special about a large field of flowered sunflowers. Two weeks ago we road out to find the sunflower fields of Perlick, however we missed it by two miles. Having gotten a tip from Lee, another rider and friend, on the location we left home and crossed into Wisconsin.   We found the Perlick Distiller  sunflower fields maze close to Sarona, WI. It was late in the day so we did not try the field maze.  The Perlick farm opened a distiller there.  It's a cute place with a bar, food, and plenty of outdoor activity.   I typically do not drink and ride so I cannot comment on the spirits.  The bar was very busy so we didn't stay. We just used the restrooms.   They are expanding and it looks like a formal restaurant is coming.  I know that we will be back.   If you get there, and had the pleasure to sample their product, please leave a comment. A few miles down the road We stopped for lunch

Where are the stories on Travel?

During this covid-19 pandemic, everyone's travel is at a standstill.  Most of us are in self isolation.  Unfortunately some of us are in quarantine.  My wife and i have just completed out 4th week of self isolation.  Our weekend and daily trips are at a standstill.  The cars remain in the garage except for an occasional expedition to forage for the needed.  My motorcycle hasn't migrated out of the shed to the garage. Usually, the winter time gives me opportunity to complete many computer tasks such as cataloging my pictures; creating some home movies; and catching up on the blog.   However, this winter my attention to these tasks has been distracted.  For everything there is a season; and being isolated has created the needed space to catch up. What does that mean to you blog followers? In addition to the miscellaneous ramblings, I plan to complete the following series from the past: Circling Lake Superior - from Sept 2019 Visiting Phoenix Az - from Nov 2019 Bensonvill

Just some rumblings caused by Covid-19

Like most of you, I have been dwelling on this covid-19 stuff for days.   First, LoriAnn and I are fine. Here in Minnesota, grocery stores and box stores (Walmart, Target, Home Depot) are open.  We have provisions, but try to forage for fresh veggies and food periodically. A few restaurants have closed, but most are trying to stay alive with takeout, curb service or delivery.  We try to patronage one or more of our favorites once or twice a week. We go for daily walks when the weather permits.  Usually the roads are void of people. Parks are open but playgrounds are shut down.  I may see some children playing outside.  For the most part people are staying indoors.  But if caught outside, people are keeping their distance.  They will likely wave and have a quick conversation.  We live in the outer suburbs.  It sounds like it could be different in the inner cities of STP and MPLS.  I heard the mayors are wanting to shut down the lake and river paths because too man
